The Cabin

An interactive and intuitive real-life escape game. Locked in a room(s) with a group of 2 – 12 people, you will have 60 minutes to solve challenging puzzles in order to escape. Can you get out in time? Stuck in the woods you have 60 minutes to solve the clues and save the the missing children. Do you have what it takes to defeat the Witch?

Run by Room Escape Southend we did not really know what to expect from this escape room. The room itself is located around 15 minutes from the Southend coast, on a small high street amongst an eclectic selection of shops. Car parking is available but we did have to hunt for the actual space as it is not advertised on the ticket. There is no waiting area and as soon as we entered the door we were straight into the experience. We were greeted by one of the actors who was ‘in-character’ something we only realised about 5 minutes into the introduction.

The themeing of the building was excellent, the ‘Cabin’ theme was recreated excellently and you could genuinely believe you were in a cabin in the woods. The story of the room was well thought out, with an in-character actor there to help us when we got stuck.

Navigating the room was easy with the puzzles revealing themselves naturally. At points the room would go dark and we were greeted by someone else in the room with us. This really added something extra to the room and was very fun. We completed the room with 2 people, the room is advertised as being able to take up to 8 people which would have been way to cramped and would have ruined the atmosphere. The only small negative points we experienced was the hosts very pink mobile phone on view and being told it was not part of the experience, this did break our immersion as everything else was so well done. The hosts cleaning up the room before we had actually left also felt like we were being rushed out to make way for the next group.

The ending of the room was excellent with us chanting an incantation in an ‘outdoor’ themed area banishing the creature then being sent back outside into the daylight wondering what just happened! The room and experience was great and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
